The Furniture at Wethersfield
Much like the art collection at Wethersfield, the fine furniture collection is a combination of inherited pieces and pieces acquired by Chauncey Stillman; again like the paintings, the furniture ranges in style and era. Designers and craftsman like Thomas Chippendale and Andre Craierd are among the list of eminent designers whose work can be seen throughout the house.
Unlike a standard museum or even other grand estates from Mr. Stillman's day, the furniture at Wethersfield was not roped off and sequestered. Rather, it was used and lived in by the Stillman family and their guests. Consequently, despite containing such esteemed pieces, the house does not communicate opulence.
