To Gregorian Chant Conference
June 27th through 30th
This summer, the Wethersfield Institute will host a Gregorian Chant Workshop in Upstate New York at the Wethersfield House and Gardens in Amenia, NY. This four-day workshop will include instruction in signing, teaching, and directing Gregorian chant. Each day, sung Masses and liturgical offices will be celebrated in the house Chapel, and communal meals will be shared by the participants. Individuals will be accommodated in private rooms in the historic Wethersfield House and the nearby Carriage House.
The classes will be taught by two Dominican friars, Fr. Vincent Ferrer Bagan, O.P., and Fr. Innocent Smith, O.P. Fr. Vincent Ferrer is in the process of completing a Master’s Degree in sacred music at the Catholic University of America and has extensive experience in choral conducting and vocal pedagogy. Fr. Innocent received a License in Sacred Theology focusing on the liturgical theology of Thomas Aquinas, and has been engaged in the production of chant and liturgical books for the Order of Preachers for the past nine years. Fr. Vincent Ferrer has recently been assigned to Providence College in Providence, RI, where he will teach music and theology courses beginning in the Fall of 2017; Fr. Innocent has been serving for the past two years at the Parish of St. Vincent Ferrer and St. Catherine of Siena in New York City, where he has helped to develop a new music program for the parish that includes extensive use of chant.
Due to the generosity of the Wethersfield Institute and Wethersfield Foundation, each participant accepted for the course receives a full tuition scholarship. Participants are asked to provide $150.00 to cover program costs for the four days and three nights of the workshop, although need-based assistance is available.
